Reverend John B. Mullaney
John Mullaney, Morningstar United Methodist Church’s pastor, was appointed to the church in the summer of 2008. A graduate of the College of Charleston (2001) and the Candler School of Theology, Emory University (2004), John has served two other congregations in the North Alabama Conference before coming to Morningstar. John’s passions include preaching, pastoral care, and creating meaningful times of worship. John believes strongly in the transforming power of a relationship with Christ. He hopes that all feel welcome at Morningstar as they begin or continue a lifelong journey of discipleship.
John and his wife, Denise, who is also a United Methodist minister, have one daughter, Maggie. They live in Chelsea .

Jordan Stevenson
Jordan Stevenson joined Morningstar in April of 2010 as the new Director of Youth Ministries. He grew up in Marietta, Georgia, but came to Birmingham by way of Samford University in 2001. While at Samford he served in numerous ministries and churches in town. He graduated from Samford in 2006 with a B.A. in Religion and is planning on starting Seminary in spring of 2011. Jordan enjoys playing bass guitar, listening to music, chatting about religion, thinking of goofy things to make the Youth laugh, and being with his family. Joining Jordan in service is his wonderful wife April and their beautiful daughter Chandler. They live in Homewood.
Michael Myrick
Michael joined the staff here at Morningstar in May of 2006. He began choir directing professionally in the United Methodist Church in June of 1984 and has since served several congregations within the North Alabama conference. In recent years, he has focused particular attention on music literature for the volunteer choir and the development of choral groups within the church.
Michael has been in public education as a music teacher since 1988 and is currently the music teacher for the Fultondale community grades K-12. He works closely with his wife, Kathryn, who is the theatre director for Shelby County High School. It is Michael’s greatest desire to serve those around him by helping them develop their musical gifts for ministry to others.
Michael also finds enjoyment and interest in the areas of choral music writing and arranging, the relationships between theological concepts, Christian development and aesthetics, hymn stories, teaching musicianship using technology, and antique car restoration.
Trevor Newberry
Trevor has been a part of Morningstar's staff since 2008. Trevor is a gifted musician and leader. Trevor's passions include all things coffee & playing music.
Liz Weygand
Liz has attended MUMC since 2007, but she joined the staff as the Mother’s Day Out Director in 2010. She graduated from the
University
of
Alabama
in 2004 with a B.A. in Public Relations & from the
University
of
Alabama
at
Birmingham
in 2007 with a M.A. in Education. She, her husband, Scott, & their two children reside in
Chelsea
. She enjoys spending time with her family, Bible study, reading, and sewing. Liz has a deep love for our church and its members & enjoys watching our church family continue to grow.
Holly Ewrin
Tom Grigsby
Pianist
Tom has been the pianist at Morningstar since November of 2005. He graduated in 1989 from Jacksonville State University, where he studied piano and trumpet. He has been the band director at Shelby County High School in Columbiana for ten years. He and his wife, Brooke, have two children, Tommy, Jr. and Addison.
One of his biggest hobbies is following NASCAR. He also is an avid golfer and reader. He loves to spend time riding his Harley with friends.
His greatest hope is that his piano playing will bless other people, and that he doesn’t get in anyones way of worshipping.
